What is VoIP? VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol - that is, voice delivered using Internet Protocol. In a nutshell, VoIP enables both cost savings and extra functionality by enabling voice traffic to be converted to the digital format of data packets and delivered over a data network (using Internet Protocol) instead of the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) [Back to Top]
Why should I consider VoIP? Today, IP telephony is taking the world by storm. Throughout the United States VoIP has become the corporate standard due to its cost savings, flexibility and security. By converging data and voice onto one single wide-area network (WAN), companies are changing the way they communicate internally and externally. By 2009, 74% of corporate phone lines are predicted to be IP lines (source: Radicati Group). In Australia, many large organisations are already reaping the benefits of VoIP, and now, with ISPhone, all businesses, regardless of size, can enjoy the same benefits. [Back to Top]
What advantages does it have opposed to a regular PSTN line?
The single largest benefit of VoIP is in cost savings. That will mean significant savings on your telephone bill - from line rental to national, international and mobile calling. For Internet Service Providers and System Integrators it will mean the ability to offer all the benefits of VoIP to the vast majority of Australian businesses.
Convergence of voice and data
By carrying voice and data on the same network, not only do you have a more efficient, cost-effective communications network, but it is simplified and provided by one carrier. The offer of bundled services and packages also saves time and money by bringing all of your telecommunication needs under one banner and in one bill.
VoIP Wide-area network (WAN) with free on-net calling
Companies with multiple sites can easily set up a VoIP Virtual Private Network (VPN) and link all of their offices' voice and data, allowing for a closed-circuit network with shared data and free on-net calling.
Remote access to main offices
Employees can now communicate from home (and on the road with a soft-phone) back to the head office and to other remote employees for no cost. IP PBX With features such as:
Are all VoIP providers the same? No, there are a number of differences that will affect the quality of the calls so you need to be careful when selecting your VoIP operator. You will need to consider the following:
Are your calls being carried over a dedicated VoIP network or through the public Internet?
Is voice traffic given highest priority?
Will my network be constantly monitored?
ISPhone pride themselves on great service and reliability and have brought excellent voice quality and service to the Australian VoIP market. They are a dedicated VoIP network with a 24 hour monitoring service, and can even offer you a 30 day trial period. Please follow the links if you would like any further information on ISPhone.
At what rate will my VoIP calls be charged?
Here at Cstore, we offer extremely competitive call rates worldwide. Interbranch calls are between offices with IP-PBX systems. All other calls can be to either IP phones or regular PSTN lines.
As you can see, VoIP has the potential to save you hundreds of dollars in phone calls every month.
What do I need to start using VoIP in my business and how much will it cost?
To start taking advantage of the enormous cost savings with VoIP you will need an IP-PBX system. A PBX converts your voice calls into data packets that are sent over the data network to your customers, suppliers, and other branches within your business. The total cost of a VoIP network will be dependent on your needs and your current telephony system. If you have a regular telephone system (PSTN) you might want to have a look at some of the complete systems we can provide. Currently, our suggested product for a small business is one of the Quadro6L systems. If you would like a custom IP-PBX solution for your business and would like some help in designing the perfect system, you can contact us for a no obligation free consultation. You will also need a VoIP connection with a trusted and reliable Internet Telephone Service Provider (ITSP). We suggest ISPhone for their excellent call quality and reliability. If you would like more information on ISPhone you can find visit their website. If you already have an IP-PBX system but are unhappy with your current ITSP, we can provide you with an ISPhone account. You can start receiving excellent call quality for a fraction of the price of a regular PSTN line within days. Please Note: Some PBX systems are made compatible with only one service provider. Please ensure your PBX is compatible will all ITSPs before purchasing a connection with a new ITSP. [Back to Top]
Why pay for a connection when I can get VoIP free with my computer? It is true that you can take advantage of VoIP through your computer with a system that routes your calls through the public internet. However, when your voice data travels through the public internet there is a very high chance some of the data will be lost and you will experience jitter. You will also experience high latency, as voice is not always given priority over data on the public internet, which can cause you calls to end prematurely. The faults with these cheaper or free systems will not only frustrate yourself and your valued customers, but they will cost you time and money in the long run.
ISPhone have brought excellent voice quality and service to the Australian VoIP market. They have 24 hour monitoring of all their accounts, and excellent call quality with minimal static, jitter and latency. ISPhone are so confident in their superior call quality that they have a 30 day trial period. If, after using your new IP-PBX system for 30 days, you are unhappy with the call quality, we can give a full refund of the goods. If you are happy with the quality, cut the teather with your phone company and start saving!
